Our two Directors have both worked in the Financial Services sector for far too many years to mention and this has given them a wealth of experience in dealing with the complex and ever- changing needs of their clientele.
Both are qualified in the areas of Financial Planning (Chartered Financial Planners) and Investment Management (Private Client Investment Advice and Management) which gives them a complimentary skill set in assessing strategies around Planning as well as analysing the most appropriate underlying investments.
Simon Groom
Simon career started in London, where he worked for a global insurance and investment house, on moving North he moved into Private Banks providing wider investment advice and asset structuring to High-net-worth clients. Before setting up his own business his roles included stints at Gerrard Investment management, Barclays Wealth and Coutts. Eventually the attraction of owning and running his own business proved too great and Coombe Capital was formed.
Outside of work, Simon is a keen Skier and Mountain Biker and can be found falling down in both disciplines with alarming regularity.
He can also be found supporting his daughter’s equestrian endeavours, although he has never ridden a horse and has no plans to.

Claire Watts
Claire started her career in finance in her hometown of Bristol, where she worked for Albert E Sharp Stockbrokers, which were bought out by Gerrard Investment Management and subsequently taken over by Barclays Wealth. Over a 17-year period within the firms, she was predominantly an investment manager running portfolios for wealthy clients of the institution.
Simon and Claire have been friends for a long time, and he convinced her that they could put their skills and experience together and build a firm focussing on strong client relationships whilst providing high quality financial and strategic advice. A leap of faith and Coombe Capital was formed.
Outside of work, Claire has two young boys that keep her busy supporting their hobbies of cycling and football. Whenever spare time does allow, she is a keen mountain biker and has many bruises to prove it! Her interest stems from her husband’s career as the National coach for the GB mountain bike team. Summer weekends are often full of racing and watching the Pro’s do it properly!
She also likes to walk in the hills of the Peak district which are on the doorstep.
